Recreational Soccer at Riverside

RECREATIONAL SOCCER. AGES U8 AND U12.

Despite developmental differences, it’s still generally true that a transition from “playing” to “learning” is underway. General movement training (e.g. tag, running games, and simple ball games) should still be a part of every session, but now it’s time to start systematically training and reinforcing basic techniques little by little. By age 10, players have developed the positive characteristics – self-confidence, improved concentration, and a willingness to learn and perform – that make it possible to begin systematic technique training. As a coach, it is up to you to adapt and provide consistency, scope, and intensity of your technical training to fit each player’s abilities.

As a parent progressing through the system, seeing visual progression and applying a degree of faith and patience, with the principles of Riverside’s training method, will only see positive effects.
