RSC HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM DETAILS
Beginning spring season 2016, Riverside Soccer Club announces co-directors John Barone and Mike Mascenik to their High School program. John and Mike are current Jefferson County High School varsity coaches who are committed to Riverside Soccer Club and to helping high school age players reach their soccer and academic goals. John and Mike will be involved with every aspect of the U15 through U18 age groups including:
- Selecting the best coaches available
- Running academy sessions for each team in the program
- Helping players and parents search for the right college, both for academics and soccer
- Running a summer college day for in- and out-of-state college coaches to see our players in action
- Running pre-high school tryout camps to better prepare our players for high school
- Helping facilitate video of Riverside players for college recruitment
- Identifying the best tournaments to get exposure to the right level of college coach
Goals
- Provide a safe, healthy, and competitive environment for high school age players
- Help players reach their individual goals
- Facilitate college recruitment
- Provide community and club service opportunities
Meet Your Program Directors
John Barone
26 years coaching experience:
- Head Varsity coach Green Mountain High School boys
- Head coach for various boys and girls club teams from U-9 to U-19 (Club Columbine-now Rush, Riverside soccer club)
- Assistant coach Colorado School of Mines
40 years playing experience:
- Alderson Broaddus University (National Championship Runner’s up)
- Misc Denver area clubs
- Lakewood High School Varsity
Accomplishments:
- 2013 Riverside Soccer Club Boys Competitive Coach of the Year
- Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Coach of the year (Colorado School of Mines)
- Inducted in the Colorado School of Mines Athletic Hall of Fame, 2002
Mike Mascenik
6 years coaching experience:
- Head varsity coach Bear Creek High School boys
- Head coach Riverside U-17 and U-18 boys
- Head coach Club Columbine (now Rush) U-17 and U-19 boys
- Assistant coach Englewood and Chatfield High School boys
33 years playing experience:
- Metropolitan State University
- Club Columbine (now Rush) and Riverside
- Chatfield High School Varsity
Accomplishments:
- Captain of a State Cup winning team
- Three-time State Cup winner as a player
- Member of Rush program that won National Cup
Club Coach
Vitor Bravo
9 years coaching experience:
- US Coaches License: USSF C License
- Head coach for various club teams from U-10 to U-18 (Huntley Heat (IL), Crystal Lake (IL), Riverside soccer club)
- Judson University (IL) Head Coach JV Boys
- Skills training coach with Coerver Colorado
25 years playing experience:
- Misc clubs in Brazil (Club Portuges, Victoria FC)
- Sarnia Fury U13-U18 (Canada)
- St. Patrick’s High School (Canada)
- Judson University (4 National Tournament appearances, 3 Regional Championships, 4 Conference Championships)
- FC Denver Premier (2 State Cup Championships, 3 League Championships)
Accomplishments:
- 2012 and 2014 Riverside Soccer Club Boys Competitive Coach of the Year
